Winter Sanctuary: A Slow Invitation into Embodied Winter

Winter Sanctuary: A Slow Invitation into Embodied Winter

Winter has a way of changing our pace.
It pulls us inward.
It quiets the outer world just enough to hear what the inner world has been trying to say.

Winter isn’t the season for performance or push — it’s the season for resting deeper into our bodies, tending to what hurts, and listening for what’s asking to be cared for. Winter Sanctuary was born inside that season.

How Winter Sanctuary Came to Life

In September 2025, I began teaching in-person embodied flow classes locally here in Chatham-Kent. I had been sharing sensual movement and somatic work for years, but this was the first time I was offering a structured weekly series to a small group of women in my community.

After the first few classes, something started to happen that I didn’t expect:
women began asking me if there were recordings.

They wanted to revisit the sessions.
They wanted to move with them at home.
They wanted to keep the practices in their bodies, not just in their memories.

At first, I didn’t have an answer. I didn’t have a system. I didn’t have a plan to offer recordings — but the request kept coming, and I felt a spark of curiosity around bringing this work online in a more intentional way.

Then December arrived.

I decided to offer a three-week winter series — something softer, slower, rooted in the season. But in the second week, winter weather made it impossible for me to get to the studio. Instead of cancelling, we improvised. I opened Zoom, set up a warm inviting space in my living room, and invited everyone to join me online.

It was my first time capturing this work in a recording.
It felt vulnerable and exciting.
It was different from teaching in the studio — but not less intimate.

We made up the class, women moved from their own homes, and for the first time, I could see how online embodied sessions might live in their own way — a way that supported women through seasons, schedules, weather, and life.

After that moment, I began recording.

Some sessions were filmed in the studio with the shared energy of the group.
One session from the Winter Sanctuary series carries that energy — bodies breathing together, moving together, settling together.

Other sessions were recorded in my home, with soft lighting, pets sleeping behind me, and the quiet warmth of a private space. Those recordings hold a different quality — more personal, inward, and cocoon-like.

This mix — studio + home — is part of what makes Winter Sanctuary feel real, lived-in, and human. These are not polished performance videos. They are shared practices.

And that December series didn’t just end — it opened a door.
After Winter Sanctuary, I went on to record Elements of Embodiment, which became its own multi-part online offering. None of that would have happened without the weather, the Zoom session, the pets, and the women who kept asking:

“Do you have recordings?”

What Winter Sanctuary Is

Winter Sanctuary is a three-part embodied flow series created during the quieter season of winter — a time for slowing down, softening inward, and tending to what’s asking for care.

These sessions were recorded live during an intimate in-person and online gathering. They carry the organic energy of shared presence, gentle movement, and deep listening. This is not a polished performance, but a real and embodied experience — one that invites you to meet yourself with compassion, curiosity, and patience.

Each session is approximately one hour and weaves together:

• grounding and nervous system regulation
• intuitive movement and somatic awareness
• breath, sensation, and gentle release
• moments of stillness and integration

You’re invited to move slowly, rest when needed, and return to each practice as often as your body asks. This series is meant to be lived with — not rushed or perfected.

Winter Sanctuary is an invitation to soften, to listen, and to remember the wisdom already within you.
